Kjaerholm reduced the chair to three elements: legs, seat and connecting clamps. Such simplicity is true to the International Style, and the combination of a steel structure with natural materials was characteristic of his work.

Poul Kjærholm (January 8, 1929 – April 18, 1980) was a Danish designer.

Born in Øster Vrå, Denmark, Kjærholm began as a cabinetmaker's apprentice with Gronbech in 1948, going on to the Danish School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen in 1952. He was very articulate and with his natural authority he started an outstanding career as an educator in the same year (1952) but continued to study with Prof. Erik Herløw and Prof. Palle Suenson.

Kjærholm developed an artistic ideology very early on, one that he would follow without compromise throughout his career. The contrast between sculptural and architectural aspects was a major factor in this ideology — the effect achieved by placing a piece of furniture in an architectural space.

Kjærholm’s design is characterized by its understated elegance, clean lines and remarkable attention to detail — modest in means, but rich in expression. Although he always considered functionality an absolute requirement this was always done with an unwillingness to compromise as an artist. He was a true master of making a lengthy and difficult production process appear effortless in the finished piece of furniture.

If, when your furniture arrives, and for whatever reason it is not what you expected, we will remove it and refund your money. Alternatively you can exchange to a different model, colour or size.

Please inform us by email or phone of your decision to return or exchange your furniture within 14 days and we will organise a collection date. A collection charge of £25 will be applied.

2.     Two year guarantee.
Our guarantee covers any defect in manufacture and materials, allowing for fair wear and tear. In the unlikely event of a claim, we will repair or replace your furniture entirely free of charge.
