How our chair is made:
So what’s different about this particular Barcelona chair? Well, the difference is in the way the cushions have been made and the material that has been used to fill them. Our regular Barcelona chair cushion is filled with a multi layered foam cushion. This premium version of the Barcelona chair is filled using injection foam, which gives each individual square panel shape and structure. The normal foam cushion cannot give the chair this shape as the foam is just one single piece; it cannot mould and fill each individual square, but the injection foam fills each square of the cushion individually giving it extra shape. The back cushion is also curved to fit the contour of the chair frame.
The frame is constructed from 12mm thick, heavy gauge solid core steel to provide extra strength. The frame has been carefully shaped and welded to provide a clean single piece finish without screws or bolts to reveal the infamous 'X' shape which is in keeping with the original specification of The Barcelona chair.
Individual genuine leather panels are cut for the seat cushions and hand welted and tufted. Each individual leather panel is then hand stitched and piped to cover the seat cushions. Top grain Italian leather is used on the cushions for a soft buttery finish. The cushions are supported by buckle straps and not Velcro straps as on inferior versions.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, along with Walter Gropius and Le Corbusier, is widely regarded as one of the pioneering masters of Modern architecture.
